Candidates for a seat of the Board of Education

There are two candidates vying for a single open seat on the Board of Education in 2017. Paula D’Orazio is a speech pathologist, and three-term member of the Board (and its current vice president). Tim O’Connor is a local attorney and Shaker High School alumnus.

The Colonie Spotlight recently published a profile of the candidates.

The District also published some information on the candidates.

In the interest of helping voters gather the information they need to make an informed decision on May 16, we also put together a questionnaire for the two candidates, and they were both gracious enough to take out of their busy schedules to respond. We’ve published both responses in their entirety:

The District held a “Meet the Candidates” forum on the evening of May 3. There, both candidates answered a number of questions asked by members of the community. While the candidates have different backgrounds and different views on the role of the board and the state of the district, it’s clear that they both genuinely believe in the value and power of public education and earnestly want to work towards the continuing excellence of our schools.

Because we want to be a group representing all in our community who love our schools, we don’t feel it is appropriate to endorse either candidate at this time. We encourage you to read the available information on the candidates and cast a vote for the one you think will best serve the district.
